About the blog

First off thanks to Bogey for getting me started on the crazy scratch quest. A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with MS and unfortunately I had to give up my first sporting love of football. On my 30th birthday the missus and family chipped in and got me a series of golf lessons and some funds to buy my first clubs. That was back in August and in December after a frustrating and enjoyable four months Bogey challenged me to race to scratch in 5 years. The challenge commenced on January 1st 2010 and this blog originally charted my attempts to go from complete novice to scratch golfer.

In attempting something this radical I broke with tradition and resisted the urge to out and buy a Big Dog and play smash the ball over the back fence. Trying to learn the game from green to tee and started with my wedges and putter in October before getting my irons at the end of November 2009.

Unfortunately, I ended up placing far too much pressure on myself and my enjoyment began to wane. I decided therefore to abandon an all out assault on scratch handicap and to work on improving without the added pressure. The blog is still about my journey to become a better golfer and will chart my progress till August 2014, by which time I'd have played the game for five years.

iI hope you will enjoy the blog and please do share your thoughts and comments.
